What Is A Breast Lift?

A breast lift, also known as a mastopexy, involves surgically lifting and reshaping the breasts by removing excess skin and tightening the surrounding tissue.

This procedure restores the breasts’ natural position and firmness without significantly altering their size. However, many patients combine a breast lift with either a breast augmentation to increase lost volume or a breast reduction to remove breast tissue and decrease volume for optimal results based on their aesthetic goals.

Precision in Every Incision

What is the Breast Lift Procedure Like?

During your breast lift procedure, your surgeon will use carefully planned incisions, which may be around the areola, vertically down the breast, or along the breast crease, depending on the degree of lift required.

Excess skin is removed, breast tissue is reshaped, and the nipple-areolar complex is repositioned higher on the chest wall. The breasts are then carefully closed to create a firmer, lifted contour. After surgery, you’ll return home the same day with detailed recovery instructions and full support from our team.

Self-Confidence

What Conditions Does a Breast Lift Address?

By reshaping and elevating the breast tissue, a mastopexy restores youthful proportions and symmetry.

A breast lift (mastopexy) may address:

  • Sagging (ptosis) due to aging
  • Post-pregnancy breast changes
  • Volume loss after breastfeeding
  • Skin laxity from weight fluctuations
  • Downward-pointing nipples
  • Enlarged or stretched areolas
  • Asymmetry in breast height or position

What Areas of the Body Can a Breast Lift Address?

A breast lift specifically enhances the breasts by repositioning tissue and nipples higher on the chest wall. It may be combined with complementary procedures (such as augmentation or reduction) for more comprehensive contouring.

What Are the Benefits of a Breast Lift?

Elevated breasts create a firmer, more refreshed silhouette.

Bras, swimwear, and fitted tops often sit better after lifting and reshaping.

Repositioned nipples improve overall balance and proportion.

For many patients, the biggest benefit is feeling more aligned with their body again. A breast lift does not stop aging, but it meaningfully rewinds the visible effects of gravity and time.

Who Is A Good Candidate For A Breast Lift?

You may be a good candidate for a breast lift if you:

  • Are unhappy with the sagging or drooping of your breasts
  • Have lost significant volume in your breasts
  • Are in good overall health and at a stable weight
  • Are not currently pregnant or breastfeeding

Nurturing Support

What Is The Recovery From A Breast Lift Like?

After your breast lift surgery, our team ensures you receive thorough post-operative care.

Our mastopexy patients are able to go home the day of the surgery and will return to our office the day after their surgery to be seen by their doctor. Some swelling and discomfort for the first couple of weeks is normal after a breast lift. Most patients can return to light-duty activities, such as office work, as soon as 3-4 days after their procedure.

Our team provides detailed aftercare instructions and closely monitors your healing to ensure a smooth recovery and beautiful long-term results.

Breast Lift Results

You’ll notice an immediate lift in breast position after surgery, though swelling may temporarily mask the final contour.

Over several weeks, the breasts settle into their new shape, appearing firmer and more youthful. Results are long-lasting, particularly when weight remains stable. While natural aging continues, improvements in position and shape typically endure for many years. For many patients, the transformation feels subtle, yet profoundly confidence-boosting.

Breast Lift Frequently Asked Questions

A lift reshapes and repositions the breasts but does not significantly reduce volume. If you desire smaller breasts, a breast reduction may be recommended.

Not necessarily. If you’re happy with your breast size and only want improved shape and position, a lift alone may be ideal. Implants or fat transfer can be added for additional fullness.

Incisions are strategically placed and fade over time. While scars are permanent, they typically soften and become less noticeable as healing progresses.

Results are long-lasting, especially when weight remains stable. Natural aging continues, but the improved position remains significant for years.

Many patients retain the ability to breastfeed, though it cannot be guaranteed. This should be discussed during your consultation.

Most patients resume light daily activities within 1–2 weeks and return to full exercise after about 4–6 weeks.

The cost of a breast lift varies depending on the needs of each individual patient, such as:

  • The complexity of the lift
  • If additional procedures like breast augmentation or liposuction will also be performed
  • The estimated duration of the surgery

During your consultation, Dr. David Mateo de Acosta or Dr. John W. Tyrone will perform a physical assessment and review your medical history to determine whether a breast lift is right for you. We will provide a comprehensive price that includes all necessary procedures to achieve your aesthetic goals, all follow-up appointments, and one surgical bra. We offer multiple financing options to make the procedure more accessible for all of our patients.
