A Refreshed, Natural Look

Facelift Surgery at North Florida Plastic Surgery

A facelift, also known as a rhytidectomy, is a transformative procedure that helps restore youthful contours to the face by tightening skin, addressing sagging, and reducing the appearance of wrinkles.

At North Florida Plastic Surgery & Aesthetic Center, Dr. John W. Tyrone and Dr. David Mateo de Acosta specialize in this surgical treatment, which can dramatically reduce the signs of aging in the mid-to-lower face and neck, giving patients a refreshed, natural look.

What Is A Facelift Procedure?

A facelift involves removing excess skin, tightening underlying muscles, and repositioning the remaining tissue to create a more youthful appearance. The procedure can address sagging in the cheeks, jowls, and neck, helping to smooth out deep lines and folds. Submental liposuction is often recommended as part of the surgery to remove unwanted fat beneath the chin, sharpening the jawline and reducing any double chin effect.

Patients also commonly undergo CO2 Laser at the same time as their facial surgeries. This combination allows for a more comprehensive rejuvenation, creating smoother, more youthful-looking skin that complements the facial contours achieved through the facelift. Your facelift with CO2 Laser will be performed under anesthesia.

Who Is A Good Candidate For A Facelift?

Facelift surgery is suitable for both men and women who want to address aging in the mid-to-lower face. Ideal candidates for this procedure are individuals who are experiencing signs of facial aging, such as sagging skin, deep lines, or loss of facial volume. It is also recommended that patients take care of their overall skin health and do not smoke prior to their facelift procedure.

Patients who regularly undergo nonsurgical skincare treatments, such as chemical peels, microneedling, and medical-grade at-home products, can significantly enhance the skin’s condition before surgery, resulting in the best possible result. These treatments help improve skin texture, boost collagen production, and address concerns like hyperpigmentation or fine lines, ensuring the skin is in its best shape for surgery. By optimizing the skin’s health, these pre-facelift treatments can lead to smoother, more refined results post-surgery, helping patients achieve a youthful, glowing complexion that complements their facelift.

Combining Facelift Surgery with Other Cosmetic Procedures

A facelift can address sagging and wrinkled skin on the face, but if the neck is left untreated, the final result may appear unbalanced. At North Florida Plastic Surgery & Aesthetic Center, our board-certified plastic surgeons can combine a facelift procedure with a minimally invasive neck lift for more comprehensive results.

A minimally invasive neck lift helps patients achieve a smoother, more youthful-looking neck with natural results and minimal downtime. When paired with cutting-edge, FDA-cleared technology like Renuvion, patients can also enjoy reduced deep lines and folds in the neck and jowl area. Renuvion relies on a combination of radiofrequency energy and helium plasma gas to gently heat collagen fibers beneath the skin, stimulating them to tighten and rebuild. The result is a firmer, lifted, and more contoured appearance.

Schedule a consultation with Dr. John W. Tyrone or Dr. David Mateo de Acosta to learn more and find out if a minimally invasive neck lift with Renuvion is right for you.

Recovery and Post-Operative Care

After your facelift, you can expect some bruising, swelling, and redness of the skin for the first couple of weeks. You will need to wear the chin strap for the first couple of weeks to help reduce swelling and improve your results.

If you choose to also undergo CO2 Laser, it’s important to keep the treated area clean and well-moisturized, using the prescribed ointments to aid in recovery. Patients should avoid sun exposure and follow all instructions provided by their aesthetic medical provider to promote proper healing.

Patients typically return to light-duty activities within a few days, but it’s important to rest during the initial recovery period to ensure proper healing.Dr. John W. Tyrone or Dr. David Mateo de Acosta will monitor your recovery with a follow-up appointment the day after your surgery to make sure you’re healing well and will continue to see you regularly to ensure you are satisfied with your results.
