Reclaim a Masculine Contour

What is Gynecomastia Surgery?

Gynecomastia surgery is a procedure designed to remove excess glandular breast tissue, fat, and, in some cases, excess skin from the chest area.

This surgery addresses gynecomastia, a condition characterized by the enlargement of male breast tissue, which can occur due to hormonal changes, genetics, or lifestyle factors. The goal of male breast reduction is to restore a flatter, more masculine chest contour.

Treatment may involve liposuction to remove fatty tissue, surgical excision to remove firm glandular tissue, or a combination of both. In some cases, excess skin is also tightened to create a smooth, contoured chest.

The Day of Your Gynecomastia Surgery

On the day of your surgery, you will arrive at our hospital-grade, QUAD A-accredited outpatient surgical facility.

Small, strategically placed incisions are made, often around the edge of the areola or within natural chest contours, to minimize visible scarring. Liposuction removes excess fat, while dense glandular tissue is carefully excised when necessary. The chest is then contoured to create a flatter, more defined appearance. If required, minor skin tightening may be performed.

Gynecomastia surgery patients go home the same day. Patients will need a ride home from the surgery center and someone to care for them for the first 24 hours post-operatively.

What Conditions Does Gynecomastia Surgery Address?

Gynecomastia surgery addresses:

  • Enlarged male breast tissue
  • Puffy or protruding nipples
  • Persistent chest fullness despite weight loss
  • Asymmetry between sides of the chest
  • Emotional discomfort or self-consciousness

This procedure is particularly helpful when excess tissue is glandular and cannot be reduced through exercise alone.

Who is a Good Candidate for Gynecomastia Surgery?

Men who may benefit from gynecomastia surgery include those who:

  • Have excess breast tissue or fat in their chest.
  • Are in good physical health and have a stable weight.
  • Have tried other methods such as weight loss or medication changes without improvement.

During your consultation, your surgeon will review your health history and lifestyle, perform a physical examination, and discuss your goals to ensure you are a good candidate for the procedure.

What to Expect During Your Consultation

Your journey toward a more masculine chest begins with a thorough complimentary consultation with your plastic surgeon. During this appointment, your surgeon will:

  • Review your medical history and any underlying causes of gynecomastia.
  • Discuss your aesthetic goals and expected outcomes.
  • Develop a personalized surgical plan that suits your body and addresses your concerns.

A pre-operative appointment will be scheduled two weeks before surgery, during which we will:

  • Obtain your vital signs.
  • Review the surgical plan and answer any remaining questions.
  • Go over consents for surgery.
  • Take before photos for documentation.

Healing Toward Definition

Gynecomastia Surgery Recovery and Post-Operative Care

After your gynecomastia surgery, post-operative care is essential for achieving optimal results.

You will be seen the day after your procedure, where your surgeon will answer any questions you may have and ensure you’re healing properly. During recovery, patients can expect:

  • Swelling, bruising, and some discomfort for the first couple of weeks.
  • Wearing a compression garment to support the chest and minimize swelling.
  • Avoiding strenuous activities for a few weeks to allow the chest to heal properly.

Most patients can return to light-duty activities within 3-4 days, and full recovery takes a few more weeks, depending on individual healing rates and lifestyle factors.

Defined Confidence That Lasts

Gynecomastia Surgery Results

You’ll notice immediate improvement in chest flatness after surgery, though swelling may temporarily obscure the final definition.

Over the following weeks and months, the chest settles into a smoother, firmer contour. Results are typically permanent, provided weight remains stable and underlying hormonal conditions are addressed. For many patients, the transformation feels both physical and psychological, restoring confidence that extends far beyond appearance.
